Mahira Khan is pregnant again. The Pakistani actress, 41, announced on Instagram that she and her husband, entrepreneur Salim Karim, are expecting their first child together. It will be her second.

Her post showed her in a flowing white dress, hands resting on a visible bump, staged and unhurried, the kind of announcement that's clearly been planned for weeks. The caption read simply, "We make plans and then there is ALLAH'S plan."

Mahira's Instagram is banned in India, a restriction that has applied to several Pakistani celebrities amid the strain between the two countries following the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed. That hasn't stopped the announcement from spreading here anyway. Screenshots did the rounds within hours, and by Saturday morning it was hard to open a timeline without seeing the same white-dress photo recirculated a dozen times.

The timing isn't incidental. Mahira and Salim marry three years ago, on October 1, 2023, in a wedding that generated its own storm of attention at the time, largely because Azlan, her teenage son from her first marriage, walked her down the aisle. That moment, captured on video and posted by Mahira herself, became one of the most shared clips from a Pakistani celebrity wedding in recent memory. This pregnancy news arrives just ahead of that anniversary, which is presumably the point.

Azlan is 17 now, the son Mahira shares with her first husband, Ali Askari. The two split in 2015. She has spoken before about raising him largely on her own in the years since, before Salim entered the picture.

The pregnancy reveal wasn't the only thing putting Mahira in front of cameras this week. She turned up at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she moderated a conversation as part of the festival's Community Impact programming and was honoured for her contribution to cinema. On the red carpet there, she wore a saree, one hand resting lightly on her bump as photographers worked the line. It's a rare combination, an international festival honour and a pregnancy announcement landing in the same week, and it's generated the sort of warm, slightly disbelieving reaction reserved for stars who seem to be doing everything at once.

Mahira built her crossover reputation in India largely on Raees, opposite Shah Rukh Khan, back when Pakistani actors still worked in Hindi cinema without controversy. That door has been shut for years now. Whether this pregnancy changes her workload, her festival calendar, or anything about the year ahead hasn't been addressed. For now, the only official word is the caption itself, and whatever Instagram post follows once the anniversary actually arrives on October 1.
