Six days in, and Mirzapur: The Movie has crossed ₹190 crore worldwide. PVR Cinemas decided that called for a bit of nostalgia.

The multiplex chain jumped on the AI-generated 80s trend currently doing the rounds online, reimagining the film's cast as stars of that decade. Pankaj Tripathi's Kaleen Bhaiya showed up in a brown trouser suit and a gold chain, the kind of look that used to signal old money on screen. Divyenndu's Munna Bhaiya got sunglasses and a jacket. Ali Fazal's Guddu Pandit was styled in denim, mid action-pose. Jitendra Kumar's Bablu Pandit came off looking like a textbook 80s chocolate boy, colourful shirt and all.

The women weren't left out either. Rasika Dugal, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Shweta Tripathi were all pictured in pink outfits with the big, voluminous curls that defined the era's screen heroines. Ravi Kishan closed out the carousel with his own retro spin.

PVR captioned the Instagram post "Serving Mirzapur's bhaukaal with some serious 80s retro energy!" and the comments section did what comments sections do, turning it into an unofficial poll. "Munna bhai on top," wrote one fan. Another wasn't having any of the makeover for Ravi Kishan: "Ravi Kishan is Ravi Kishan only, even if he is from dinosaur era no AI can change him." A third simply backed Guddu Pandit.

The timing works in the film's favour. Mirzapur: The Movie opened with a ₹25 crore first day and hasn't really slowed since, pulling in ₹137 crore domestically and ₹193 crore worldwide over six days, per the numbers cited in trade reports. That puts it at sixth among the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2026, no small thing for a title that started life as a streaming show before Excel Entertainment and director Gurmeet Singh took it to theatres.

Divyenndu, for his part, used the moment to thank the audience directly rather than lean on a studio statement. "Family hain aap log hamari.. Aur aapne saabit kar diya!! Mirzapur family ki taraf se Dhanyawaad," he posted, telling fans they'd proved themselves family.

The cast list, for anyone counting, runs Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Ravi Kishan, most of whom have now been playing these characters for the better part of a decade across the show and now the film.

What happens through the second weekend will decide how much further up that 2026 chart it climbs.
