The Malayalam superstar who originated Georgekutty posted a video review of the Hindi finale, and Star Studios reshared it with a thank-you note of its own.
Mohanlal watched Drishyam The Conclusion and had something to say about it. The Malayalam superstar, who first played Georgekutty when the original Drishyam released in Malayalam back in 2013, posted a video message praising the Hindi franchise's closing chapter, which hit theatres on October 2.
"I watched Drishyam The Conclusion. And I am truly impressed with the way they have brought this much loved journey to a befitting end," Mohanlal said in the clip, going on to congratulate director Abhishek Pathak, producer Kumar Mangat Pathak, Ajay Devgn and the rest of the cast and crew.
Star Studios, the banner behind the film, reposted the video on its official handles with a note thanking him directly. "Thank you so much for your kind appreciation, Mohanlal Sir," it read, tagging him as Lalettan.
It's a neat bit of symmetry. Mohanlal built Georgekutty into a Malayalam institution across three films, the most recent of which arrived earlier this year and kept the story going rather than closing it off. Ajay Devgn's Hindi version, where the character is called Vijay Salgaonkar, went the other way. Pathak and his writers, Aamil Keeyan Khan and Parveez Shaikh, built this third Hindi outing specifically as an ending, not a continuation, breaking from the Malayalam template the franchise started with.
The cast reflects how much the Hindi series has grown its own identity over three films. Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav are all back from the earlier instalments. Jaideep Ahlawat joins fresh, playing a crime branch officer named Rajveer Singh Tomar who comes after Vijay with the kind of pressure the family hasn't faced before.
The film opened over the Gandhi Jayanti long weekend, a slot that's worked well for the franchise before, and Bollywood Hungama reported it had already pulled in Rs 65 crore across its second weekend, holding 37 percent of its opening business. Cinema Express reported the film is on track to cross Rs 500 crore worldwide, though exact tallies from different trackers haven't all lined up.
What matters more for the franchise's future, though, is the word "Conclusion" in the title. Pathak's team has been clear this is meant to shut the door on Vijay Salgaonkar's story in Hindi, even as the Malayalam version keeps moving with Mohanlal still playing the man who started it all. Whether that door stays shut once the box office numbers are all in is the only part of this story nobody's answered yet.
