Parineeti Chopra found out she was pregnant with her son Neer while she was already knee-deep in shooting Shaque: Trust No One, her Netflix debut. She said as much at the trailer launch in Mumbai on Wednesday, where the cast and crew, including Anup Soni, Soni Razdan, Jennifer Winget, Tahir Raj Bhasin, director Rensil D'Silva and producer Siddharth P Malhotra, showed up for a launch that reportedly ran well behind schedule.

Parineeti didn't seem to mind filling the gap with a story. She said she and husband Raghav Chadha often joke that they were grateful the pregnancy happened on this particular project, with this particular team, and not somewhere less forgiving. "We found out once the shoot had already begun," she said, describing the moment as landing right in the middle of a punishing schedule in Shimla and Chail.

Telling the makers wasn't easy, she admitted, given how much a pregnancy can complicate a production already committed to difficult locations. But according to Parineeti, she barely got the sentence out before the team cut her off. "Humko toh pehle se hi pata tha," they told her, laughing, before promising she had nothing to worry about.

What followed, by her account, was a fairly significant rework of the shoot. Action sequences got restructured so she wouldn't be put at risk, without the production sacrificing what those scenes were meant to achieve creatively. She specifically credited Rensil D'Silva for making calls a lot of directors wouldn't bother making mid-shoot.

The production also solved a more basic problem: the commute. Shooting was happening in bungalows and locations far enough out that the daily drive on Shimla's winding hill roads was eating close to an hour each way. So the team arranged for Parineeti to simply stay on set instead of shuttling back and forth, letting her shoot and rest without the extra travel.

And then there was the small matter of her husband showing up. Parineeti said Raghav Chadha, true to form, dropped what he was doing and headed straight to Shimla to be with her. Her mother, mother-in-law and brothers followed at various points, prompting what she joked was a running question on set about whether her entire family had decided to move in for the shoot.

She called it fitting that Neer's first project, in a manner of speaking, lined up with her own first web series. Shaque: Trust No One, a thriller built around a mother's nine-year search, streams on Netflix from September 24. Whether the show's reception matches the story behind its making is the part still to be settled.
