Priyanka Chopra Jonas got behind Hunkkaar - The Roar this week, and this one's personal. Her production house, Purple Pebble Pictures, is one of the banners behind the show. So when she posted the trailer on her own page with a note for lead actor Fatima Sana Shaikh, it read less like a courtesy share and more like a producer talking up her own project.

"You are fantastic in this show! @fatimasanashaikh," Chopra Jonas wrote alongside the trailer. Shaikh replied on her own handle, mixing English and Hindi: "Poori duniya alag, @priyankachopra championing our show bilkul alag." Roughly: the whole world reacting is one thing, having Priyanka in your corner is another.

Hunkkaar - The Roar is a courtroom drama from Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment, made in association with Chopra Jonas's Purple Pebble Pictures and Mangata Films Production. Karan D Kapadia and Nitya Mehra direct. It starts streaming on JioHotstar on September 25.

Shaikh plays a police officer in the show, and the trailer has apparently done its job. Since it dropped, per Bollywood Hungama, the chatter around Shaikh's performance hasn't let up. The plot itself is still largely under wraps, but the setup, a courtroom procedural anchored by a woman in uniform, has been enough to get people talking.

Aneet Padda steps back into the frame

The trailer launch also marked something else. Aneet Padda made her first promotional appearance since Saiyaara, and photographers reportedly went into overdrive for it. Padda told reporters she was 19 when she auditioned for the role and described the subject at the show's centre, without naming it outright, as "a very powerful and sensitive topic for somebody so young."

That's about as much as either actor has said on record about what Hunkkaar actually deals with. The courtroom tag and Shaikh's cop role point to something procedural and heavy, but neither the makers nor the cast have spelled out the case driving the story.

What's clear is the timing. With a little over two weeks to go before the JioHotstar premiere, the promotional push now has two things a streaming release needs: a producer with a massive following vouching for the show, and a young actor riding the back of a breakout year willing to show up and talk about it.

Whether Hunkkaar - The Roar earns the noise once it's actually out is a separate question. For now, the trailer's done its bit. September 25 is the date to watch.
