Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy has stepped into film promotion, releasing the second look poster of the Tamil film Dhrogam Pazhagu and wishing the entire team well, according to Filmibeat Tamil.
The film comes from Mahil Productions, backed by producer C Beaula Mahil, and is directed by Seeyon Raja. Dhakshan Vijay plays the lead. Filmibeat Tamil describes the story as carrying a message rooted in public welfare, though details of the plot itself haven't been laid out beyond that.
The supporting cast is a mixed bag pulled from across Tamil comedy and television circuits: Lollu Sabha Jeeva, G M Kumar, Janaki Amma, Vanitha Vijayakumar, Appukutty, Amudhavanan, Thivakar and Ganja Karuppu all feature in key roles.
A CM's stamp of approval
What makes this second look drop notable isn't the poster itself but who put it out. Rangasamy reportedly sat through rough-cut visuals from the film before releasing the poster, and used the moment to compliment Dhakshan Vijay directly along with the rest of the crew for their effort. That's not standard-issue politician-attends-film-event stuff, going by how Filmibeat Tamil framed it, and it's given the second look a visibility bump the film's producers will happily take.
The Vairamuthu factor
The music side has its own hook. Bala and Raja have composed the score, but it's lyricist Vairamuthu's involvement that's doing the heavy lifting on expectations. He's written a track for the film that Vaikom Vijayalakshmi has sung, and for a project without major stars in the lead slot, that pairing is being positioned as a genuine draw.
The first look, released earlier, leaned on a different kind of star power altogether. Rather than a single unveiling, a group of actors and industry figures put the poster out on their own social media pages, S V Sekar, R K Selvamani, Natty (Natraj), Ramki, Poonam Bajwa, Iniya, Nandita Swetha and Ashmitha Singh among them. It's an unusual way to launch a first look, borrowing goodwill from names bigger than the film's own cast to get eyeballs early.
What's next
Filmibeat Tamil reported that the music and trailer launch event for Dhrogam Pazhagu will take place soon, with the theatrical release to follow shortly after. No date has been set for either yet. For a film riding on a message-driven story rather than star wattage, the string of high-profile unveilings, first from a cast of familiar faces and now from a sitting chief minister, is doing a lot of the pre-release work. Whether the trailer and the songs can carry that momentum into an actual box office number is the next thing to watch for.
