Bhansali Productions dropped Ranbir Kapoor's first poster from Love & War on Thursday, and Alia Bhatt greeted her husband and co-star with a two-word Instagram caption.
Ranbir Kapoor's first look from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War landed on Thursday, and it's not a pretty picture. He's behind the wheel of a turquoise convertible, slicked-back hair, dark glasses, white T-shirt gone red at one sleeve. There's a bullet mark on his shirt and a bruised, injured arm resting outside the car door. Retro cool, then a punch to the gut.
Alia Bhatt didn't waste time. She put the poster up on her own Instagram with a caption that did all the work in two words: "Hey Handsome." She followed it with the release date, January 21, 2027, and left it there. No essay, no explanation. She didn't need one.
Vicky Kaushal, who plays the third lead, reposted it too, writing "Love. War. And everything in between," before signing off with the same date. Bhansali Productions' own caption ran hotter and more filmy, something like "Woh rutba, woh raub, woh junoon" — that swagger, that authority, that obsession, tagging Ranbir, Alia and Vicky under the film's handle.
The date itself has a history worth remembering. Love & War was first pencilled in for Christmas 2025. Then it slid to March 20, 2026. Now it's January 21, 2027, and the makers seem to be treating that as final, at least for the moment, given how firmly both Alia and Vicky repeated it in their own posts.
What makes this one interesting beyond the poster is who's in the frame together. Ranbir and Bhansali haven't worked since Saawariya, the film that introduced Ranbir to Hindi cinema back in 2007. Alia's returning to a Bhansali set after Gangubai Kathiawadi. Vicky is the new entrant here, his first film with the director. And the pairs within the cast carry their own baggage: Ranbir and Alia last shared a screen in Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva, Alia and Vicky in Raazi, Ranbir and Vicky in Sanju.
Ranbir's poster arrived a day after Alia's own first look went up, a glamorous, feathered, cabaret-adjacent stage look that's already had its moment online. Together the two posters are doing what a Bhansali first-look campaign usually does: sell scale, sell period detail, sell a love story that's clearly going to hurt somebody by the time the credits roll.
Love & War is a Hindi production with dubbed versions planned for Tamil and Telugu, which tells you Bhansali and the studio are betting on a wider reach than his films have typically chased. What's still missing is a trailer, a shooting schedule update, or any sense of how far along the film actually is behind the scenes. For now, the internet has two posters, two release-date confirmations from the leads, and four months short of sixteen to wait before January 21, 2027 actually arrives.
