Netflix has pulled the plug on Ransom Canyon after two seasons. Deadline broke the news first, and the numbers explain a lot. Season 2 opened to 4.1 million viewers in its first week, down 43 percent from the 7.2 million who tuned into season 1. Netflix also trimmed the episode count for season 2, from ten down to eight, which in hindsight reads like an early warning sign.

Minka Kelly, who played lavender farmer and concert pianist Quinn O'Grady opposite Josh Duhamel's rancher Staten Kirkland, didn't wait long to respond. She posted a montage of the pair's biggest moments, mostly pulled from season 1, and kept her caption short and a little wistful. "All good things must come to an end. And so it is," she wrote, thanking the show's audience and calling them her "Ransom Canyon family."

The cancellation lands with some awkward timing. Creator and showrunner April Blair spoke to Entertainment Weekly right after season 2 dropped in July, insisting the finale, where Quinn turns down a marriage proposal from another man to stay with Staten, wasn't a wrap-up at all. "I always say the end of season 2 isn't the end of their story," she said then. "It's actually just the beginning." Blair had also flagged that Heidi Grace Engerman's enigmatic Sidney would have a bigger presence going forward. None of that will happen now.

Duhamel and Kelly had their own wish list for a third run. Kelly told Decider in July she wanted to see the couple actually build a life together after years of "start, stop, will-they-won't-they." Duhamel went further, telling her, half-joking or maybe not, that they should have a baby on the show. It's the kind of pitch that only gets made when a renewal feels like a formality.

Ransom Canyon, based on Jodi Thomas's ranching-family novels, ran for two seasons on Netflix, the first arriving in April 2025 and the second in July 2026. The ensemble included Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Marianly Tejada, Jack Schumacher, Andrew Liner, Philip Winchester, Brett Cullen and Kate Burton, alongside James Brolin, whose character Cap Fuller died of a heart attack in the season 1 finale.

As cancellations go, this one at least ends on a settled couple rather than a cliffhanger. Season 2's closing stretch had Staten and Quinn finally together, no dangling twist attached. Small mercy for a fanbase that just lost a show mid-story. Netflix, Duhamel and Kelly's reps hadn't issued a joint statement on the decision as of this report.
