Ranveer Singh doesn't need much of an excuse to hype up a friend's work, and this time the friend is Karan D Kapadia. The actor put up the trailer for Kapadia's upcoming series Hunkkaar - The Roar on his Instagram Stories, calling it a "Top notch, my G!" effort and adding, "Knockout punch" while tagging Kapadia and co-director Nitya Mehra, according to Bollywood Hungama.

The trailer itself dropped on September 10. It's clearly landed with more than just Singh, drawing chatter from viewers and industry folks alike in the days since.

What makes the post worth a second look isn't just the enthusiasm. It's the history behind it. Singh and Kapadia go back more than two decades, to their school days, long before either of them had a filmography to speak of. Their professional paths crossed properly in 2014, when Kapadia directed Singh in the Durex Do The Rex campaign, an ad that got people talking at the time and counts among Kapadia's early directorial credits. Singh was the face of it.

That ad is more than a decade old now, but Singh's trailer shoutout has pulled it right back into the conversation. It's a small reminder that some of these industry friendships run older and deeper than the projects that made either party famous, and that support between them doesn't need a press release to show up.

What Hunkkaar brings to JioHotstar

Hunkkaar - The Roar premieres on September 25 on JioHotstar, and the cast list is stacked enough to explain some of the trailer buzz on its own. Aneet Padda, Raghubir Yadav, Fatima Shaikh, Arjun Mathur, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Ram Kapoor all feature, among others.

The series is directed by Kapadia alongside Nitya Mehra and Heeraz Marfatia, and comes from Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment, working in association with Purple Pebble Pictures. It's a Mangata Films production.

For Kapadia, this is a step up in scale and visibility, a multi-director ensemble series backed by names with real streaming muscle. Whether the show delivers on the trailer's promise is a September 25 question. Whether Singh's post moves the needle on eyeballs is another matter entirely, but in an attention economy where a story from a movie star counts as marketing, Applause and Birla Studios will take it without complaint.

The real test starts once the episodes are actually out. Trailers get praised all the time. Full series get judged.
