The Zach Cregger-directed Resident Evil reboot has officially crossed $245.4 million at the worldwide box office, inching within striking distance of the $250 million milestone — and doing so with a quiet but undeniable momentum. The film, released globally on September 18, has now surpassed Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), which had long held the franchise’s third-highest-grossing title with $240.1 million.
That shift is not just symbolic. It marks a turning point for the series, proving that a modern reimagining can outperform even its most commercially successful predecessors. In its third weekend, the R-rated horror collected $12.5 million in North America, landing at #2 in domestic rankings despite losing 425 theaters.
Its drop of just 46.2% from the second weekend signals strong audience retention, rare for a genre film in late September. The domestic total now stands at $124.9 million. Overseas, it added $16.6 million, with only a 38.5% decline from the prior frame, pushing international earnings past $120.5 million across 62 markets.
