RuPaul's Drag Race UK is packing up and leaving the BBC. After eight seasons on British telly, the show is moving to World of Wonder's own streaming platform, WOW Presents Plus, Variety reported, confirming what The Sun had first flagged as a casualty of BBC budget cuts.

The departure comes with a consolation prize. Fall 2027 will bring the first-ever RuPaul's Drag Race UK: All Stars, gathering past contestants for a victory lap of sorts. It'll stream globally on WOW Presents Plus, including in the UK for the first time, alongside all eight existing seasons of the UK show and all three seasons of Drag Race UK vs the World.

So the franchise isn't dying. It's just changing addresses.

A BBC spokesperson framed the split as a money problem, not a taste one. "As the BBC continues to navigate significant financial pressures and deliver the savings required of us, we have had to make some very difficult choices, none of which have been taken lightly," the spokesperson told The Sun, adding that the broadcaster has confirmed with World of Wonder that the show is moving to WOW Presents Plus.

The timing stings a bit. Season 8, currently airing on BBC Three and iPlayer, just delivered the franchise's second-highest-rated UK premiere ever, behind only Season 6. It landed an 8.8 on IMDb, per Variety, with viewership on WOW Presents Plus climbing 20 percent. That run will play out on the BBC as scheduled before the platform switch kicks in.

World of Wonder co-founders Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato used the announcement to say something bigger than scheduling. "Historically, during times of anxiety and regression, the queer, trans and drag communities are often targeted. Today is no exception," they said in a statement, adding that the company remains "steadfast in the values that make RuPaul's Drag Race more than just a fiercely entertaining show," calling it "a lifeline, a safe space and a celebration" for millions of viewers.

The UK exit lands right as the mothership show is having its biggest year yet. RuPaul's Drag Race Season 18, won by Myki Meeks after a late-season comeback from the bottom of a Rate-A-Queen twist, became the most-watched season in the franchise's US history and pulled 11 Emmy nominations, including one for the aftershow Untucked. Spinoffs in Canada, Australia, Mexico and France have all posted double-digit growth too.

None of that cushions the fact that a linear broadcaster is walking away from a show that's still winning. It says less about Drag Race and more about where BBC's money is going these days.

For now, Season 8 finishes out its BBC run, and the wait starts for casting news on that first All Stars UK lineup, due sometime before the 2027 premiere.
