The filmmaker weighed in after Salman Khan exposed Qazi's fake-illness prank on Weekend Ka Vaar, while Gauahar Khan praised the contestant's calm under fire.
Bigg Boss 20 has a new fault line, and it isn't the one Salman Khan opened up on Weekend Ka Vaar.
Sajid Khan has publicly criticised Rhiti Tiwari for the way she went after Qazi Touqeer once his prank inside the house came undone. Gauahar Khan, meanwhile, has gone the other way, backing Qazi for how he handled the fallout.
The origin story is straightforward enough. Qazi had reportedly staged a health scare in the house, at one point telling housemates he could "see things" and later claiming he needed special medicine. Salman called it out during the weekend episode, and the reveal set off a confrontation that several contestants joined. Rhiti Tiwari, daughter of Bhojpuri actor-politician Manoj Tiwari, was the loudest voice in it, according to Bollywood Hungama. She called Qazi a "dhongi baba," a "fraudster," a "shame to mental health patients" and the "worst human ever." Qazi asked her to stop. She didn't, and the exchange kept escalating.
That's the part Sajid Khan says he couldn't sit through.
In a video posted on social media, he explained why he even follows the show closely. "I have to watch Bigg Boss. Because when I meet Salman, he asks me something. You know, it becomes a topic," he said, before getting to his actual point. "And the way that girl spoke to that boy, Kazi. I mean, I didn't like it. I'm so sorry. You know, it's very bad. I mean, she comes from a very renowned family. And what a prestigious father and name."
Sajid didn't stop at defending Qazi's dignity. He defended the prank itself, more or less. "Artists cannot embarrass an artist like this," he said, adding that whatever Qazi was doing, "people were enjoying it. At least, there is someone in Bigg Boss who is entertaining. You know, otherwise, it's like sad."
Gauahar Khan, who won season 7 of the show, took a different route to the same conclusion on her Instagram Stories. She didn't defend the prank. She defended how Qazi took the heat for it.
"Qazi Touqeer, jis beauty se aapne wo cheez handle ki," she said. "Kisi ne aapke upar spit kiya, kisi ne aapke upar apashabd bole, kisi ne aapko 'kaun hai be tu' pata nahi kya-kya bola. Pata nahi kahan se aaya woh frustration, obviously jealousy se."
She went further, framing his calm as the real story. "You held your calm, you held your language. You knew that you had made a mistake, but you also knew that it wasn't such a big mistake. That's why the confidence you have, I always say that the truth within you shows in your actions."
So the show now has two separate arguments running at once. One is about whether Qazi's prank crossed a line inside the house. The other, thanks to Sajid and Gauahar, is about whether the punishment for it did too. Salman gets the next Weekend Ka Vaar to decide which one the show wants to keep talking about.
