Salman Khan didn't say Katrina Kaif's name. He didn't need to.

A promo from this weekend's Bigg Boss 20 episode has been doing the rounds since Friday, and it shows the host mid-lecture, coat coming off, hat flying, giving the house a proper dressing down over trolling. "What do you want to troll?" he asks the contestants. "Uske wajan par, uske looks par, uske khaandaan par, kisi ke smile par, kisi ke flop par, kisi ke maa banne par, aap apni upbringing dikha rahe ho." Roughly: someone's weight, someone's looks, someone's family, someone's smile, someone's flop, someone becoming a mother, go on, troll all of it, and show the world how you were raised.

He turns it on himself too, pointing out that he gets called old every season now. "Of course 60 saal ka hogaya hu yaar," he says, more amused than stung.

He names nobody. But the timing did the naming for him.

Katrina Kaif turned up at the Ambanis' Ganpati celebration alongside husband Vicky Kaushal a few days before this episode aired, and a chunk of the internet decided her postpartum body was fair game for comment. The couple had their first child, a boy named Vihaan, on November 7 last year, and Katrina announced his name in January. Plenty of fans pushed back on the trolls at the time. Katrina herself hasn't said a word about any of it, according to the Free Press Journal.

So when Salman's clip landed with that specific line about "kisi ke maa banne par," someone becoming a mother, X did the math fast. "I know Salman Khan is defending Katrina Kaif here but I just can't prove it," one user wrote, a sentiment that's been quote-tweeted into a small genre of its own. Another framed it as him settling scores on her behalf, tying the phrase directly back to the pregnancy weight comments.

Worth being straight about what this actually is: speculation, however popular. Salman's statement was general, aimed at the Bigg Boss house at large, and neither he nor the show's channels have confirmed it was written with Katrina in mind. Bollywood Shaadis, which also carried the clip, ran it under the word "allegedly" for exactly that reason.

The history helps explain why people jumped to it anyway. Salman and Katrina dated for four years before splitting in 2010, then kept working together anyway, on Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, Bharat, Partner. That's a lot of shared screen time to read a subtext into.
