The CBFC cleared Jason Sanjay's directorial debut with only minor trims, setting up a heist-adventure built around a treasure hunt and a mother's unfinished business.
The Central Board of Film Certification has cleared Sigma, the Sandeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah starrer, with a UA16 certificate and a final runtime of 146 minutes. The film opens October 2, and per Telugu Filmibeat, a five-member censor panel screened it recently and found little to object to, resulting in only minor cuts and additions before sign-off.
That's a smooth ride for a debut director. Jason Sanjay, making his first film here, has built Sigma around a treasure hunt with action, comedy and crime layered on top, a genre mix Telugu Filmibeat's report suggests is designed to land with younger audiences who've grown up on heist plots.
The story splits into two tracks that eventually collide. Sampath Raj plays Veera Shankar Reddy, a man running a mafia operation off illegal ivory trade, drugs and gambling, looting forest resources along the way. Sandeep Kishan is Sigma, a treasure hunter chasing something his own mother left behind, with Faria Abdullah's RJ Sam as his love interest. The two men end up on a collision course over what's described as a Rs 500 crore deal, and the film builds its case around what that deal actually involves, how deep Veera Shankar Reddy's operation runs, and what Sigma's mother wanted from him in the first place.
The names behind the camera
Lyca Productions backs the film, with A Subaskaran producing and GKM Tamil Kumaran on board as co-producer. S Thaman handles music, Krishnan Vasanth is the cinematographer, KL Praveen edits, and Benjamin Milan takes care of production design, with Sanjeev Kumar Siva credited as creative producer.
On performances, Telugu Filmibeat's early reaction after the censor screening points to Sandeep Kishan and Sampath Raj going toe to toe as hero and antagonist, calling the writing on both characters sharp. Raju Sundaram, back in a substantial role after a gap, also features, alongside Maghalakshmi Sudarsanan, Shiv Pandit and Sheela Rajkumar in key parts. Faria Abdullah's RJ Sam is pitched as the film's glamour and comic relief, and the same report flags a mother-son emotional thread running underneath all the action set pieces.
There's also a Catherine Tresa special number thrown in, which the outlet notes is expected to add its own dose of glamour separate from the main cast.
With the censor process out of the way and no major cuts forced on the film, Sigma now has a clear runway to October 2. Whether the heist framing and the mother-son sentiment actually cohere on screen is the question full reviews will have to answer once the film opens alongside whatever else lands that Friday.
