Bengaluru spent Thursday talking about something the city doesn't usually pause for on a working day: happiness. India's first World Happpiness Summit wrapped up at New Horizon College of Engineering with Shilpa Shetty, Arjun Kapoor and a lineup of speakers from wellness, business and public life taking turns at the mic, all circling back to the same three words the whole event was built on.

Pleasure, Peace and Purpose. The three Ps give the summit's deliberately misspelled brand its name, Happpy AiR, and they were the organising idea behind every session through the day. The event was hosted by an entity going by Happpy AiR – Atman in Ravi, styled as the Happpiness Ambassador, and it's part of something called the #Happpy.AiR.Movement, which wants to push wellbeing into the same conversation India usually reserves for ambition and hustle.

Arjun Kapoor opened the day with a session titled The Secret of Happiness, and Dr Kiran Bedi spoke on its fundamentals before him. Bedi's advice leaned practical rather than poetic. Ask yourself if you actually deserve what you want, she said, and if the answer is no, go earn it first. She also pushed the idea that self-talk, loud or silent, is a tool for growth, not indulgence.

Arjun's own reflection afterward was less about achievement and more about presence. He said happiness gets tangled up with success and pleasure far too often, and that peace and purpose tend to get ignored in the process. For him, he said, it comes down to being present and finding meaning outside the usual highs and lows.

Shilpa Shetty closed the marquee sessions with a talk called The 3 Keys to Eternal Happiness, and her framing afterward was almost entirely about gratitude. She said it's something you have to actively practice, not something that just shows up. Her line was blunt: even when something doesn't go her way, she thanks the universe for it not happening. She also talked about greeting people on what she called a soul level, tying it back to a phrase she says often, 'Atma Namaste.'

The day also had range beyond the two Bollywood names. Nikhil Kamath sat on a panel about success and happiness alongside Hema Sardesai and others. Dr Saamdu Chetri, who helped shape Bhutan's Gross National Happiness framework, spoke about measuring wellbeing instead of wealth, a fairly pointed idea to bring into India's tech capital. There were panels on manifestation, on the science of happiness, and a set of Champion Awards handed out to organisations for fostering better workplaces.

The summit ended with a fairly direct ask: make Bengaluru the world's happiest city. Whether that catches on beyond a day-long event at an engineering college is the open question, but the organisers have already framed this as a first edition, not a one-off. If the #Happpy.AiR.Movement follows through, a second summit and some sense of what "happiest city" is even supposed to measure would be the next thing to watch for.
