Sigma’s opening weekend has turned into a cautionary tale for star progeny in Tamil cinema. In just two days, the film has grossed only 3.85 crore net in India — barely 12% to 15% of its estimated 25-30 crore production budget. The numbers are not just underwhelming. They’re alarming. After collecting 2.35 crore on Friday, Gandhi Jayanti, the film saw a steep 36.17% drop on Saturday, raking in just 1.50 crore. That decline is especially troubling given the holiday context and the high expectations tied to Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut. He’s the son of megastar Joseph Vijay, and the film was backed by Lyca Productions, a name that usually carries weight in regional releases. Yet, despite technical polish and a cast including Sundeep Kishan, Faria Abdullah, Raju Sundaram, and Sampath Raj, the heist action-drama failed to ignite interest across Tamil and Telugu circuits. The official synopsis promises an adrenaline-fueled adventure: a rogue treasure hunter navigating traps and betrayals. On paper, it sounds like a crowd-puller. But on screen, it hasn’t moved audiences. The film’s IMDb rating of 7.6 hasn’t translated into ticket sales. Jyothika, who shared a warm message for Jason Sanjay on Instagram, may have been offering encouragement, but the box office isn’t listening. With no sign of a Sunday rally across mass circuits, the film now faces the real test: weekday collections starting Monday. If it can’t gain traction then, sustaining a theatrical run beyond the weekend will be nearly impossible. No word yet on digital release plans. But one thing’s certain: the opening weekend didn’t deliver. And for a debut with such pedigree, that silence speaks louder than any trailer ever could.
