Soni Razdan thinks her son-in-law has got the hang of fatherhood pretty well. Speaking to News18, the actor described Ranbir Kapoor as a wonderful father to his daughter Raha and a steady support to Alia Bhatt, using the moment to talk about how much parenting itself has shifted since her own time raising kids.

"Fathers are, I'm sometimes gobsmacked when I see the way fathers are," Soni said. She singled out two names in her extended family. "Anshuman, what a wonderful dad he is. My son-in-law, what a wonderful father he is. You know, and he's such a support to Alia."

She didn't stop at Ranbir. Soni brought her own husband into it too, saying he's come to recognise, in hindsight, how little time he actually gave his children when they were growing up. "He had the excuse, 'I was working very hard.' But everybody is working very hard now," she said. "So, haan, it was just not that."

Her larger point was about generational change. Soni said parents today seem far more patient and far more evolved than the ones from her own upbringing, when spending time with kids wasn't treated as some kind of achievement worth mentioning. Parenting, as she put it, used to fall almost entirely on the woman in the house, shared far less than it is now.

Alia and Ranbir got married in 2022 in a small, private ceremony and had Raha the same year. Alia has spoken before about watching Ranbir change after becoming a father, and has said he makes it a point to head straight home after a shoot just to be with their daughter. Soni's comments line up with that picture, coming from someone who watches the arrangement from close quarters.

On the work side, Ranbir has Ramayana coming, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, with a cast that includes Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, Yash, Ravie Dubey, Lara Dutta and Rakul Preet Singh. The first part is set for a Diwali release this year, with the sequel scheduled for Diwali 2027, so there's a long runway of promotion and attention ahead for that project alone.

Soni herself isn't sitting still either. She's part of the cast of Shaque, the Rensil D'Silva-directed series also starring Parineeti Chopra, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Anup Soni and Jennifer Winget, which premieres on Netflix on September 24. Between that and Ramayana's Diwali countdown, this family's calendar over the next two months is fairly packed.
