Netflix has set September 11 as the streaming date for Vishwanath & Sons, and it's arriving with almost no gap between screen and sofa. The Venky Atluri family drama opened in theatres on August 14, so home audiences get it in under a month.
The platform will carry the film in its original Tamil along with Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam dubs, per 123telugu and Track Tollywood, which means Netflix isn't betting on one market. It's going wide from day one.
Suriya and Mamitha Baiju lead, with Bhavani Sre, Radhika Sarathkumar, Raveena Tandon, Sunil Reddy, Nassar, Harsha Chemudu and Harika filling out the cast. GV Prakash Kumar scored it. Sithara Entertainments produced alongside Fortune Four Cinemas.
Now, about that theatrical run. 123telugu puts the worldwide gross at more than ₹260 crore. Track Tollywood, reporting the same film, says ₹200 crore gross worldwide. That's not a rounding gap, that's a ₹60 crore swing between two trade outlets on the same number, and neither cites a distributor statement to settle it. Take both figures as trade estimates rather than an audited final tally.
What both sides agree on is where the film worked and where it didn't. Track Tollywood describes a strong Telugu response against an underwhelming one in Tamil Nadu, Suriya's home turf, which is the kind of split that trade watchers will keep chewing over long after the film has left screens.
There's a separate claim worth flagging on its own. 123telugu credits Mamitha Baiju with becoming the only Indian actress to deliver three consecutive films grossing ₹200 crore or more within 30 days, with Vishwanath & Sons among them. That's a specific and fairly remarkable stat if it holds, though the report doesn't name the other two titles or spell out the exact 30-day window, so treat it as 123telugu's framing until it's independently confirmed.
Either way, the film closing its theatrical innings and moving to Netflix inside four weeks tells its own story. Studios increasingly want that streaming premiere locked in while the theatrical buzz, whatever the exact number attached to it, is still fresh in people's heads rather than let a film cool off for months before it hits an app.
For Suriya, it's another data point in a run that's kept him consistently in the conversation this year. For Netflix, it's a five-language acquisition that covers most of the southern markets plus a Hindi dub for the north. Whether the Tamil Nadu numbers pick up in the streaming afterlife the way they didn't in theatres is the one thing nobody can answer yet. September 11 will start to.
