Thaman's Aadarsha Kutumbam Songs Fail To Click Before Release

With Narayanamma landing lukewarm and Maala drawing outright negative reactions, the Venkatesh-Trivikram family entertainer heads into its October 30 release without the musical buzz such films usually bank on.

Maala Lyrical Video - Aadarsha Kutumbam | Venkatesh, Srinidhi, Nivetha | Thaman S | Trivikram · Aditya Music on YouTube

Nine days out from release, Aadarsha Kutumbam has a problem that has nothing to do with its trailer or its stars. The music isn't landing.

Two singles are out so far. Narayanamma, the first one, got what you'd call a mixed reaction, not a disaster but nowhere near the chartbuster a big Telugu family entertainer leans on before a Friday release. Maala, the second single, has done worse. The response on social media has been largely negative, according to Track Tollywood.

That matters more for this film than most. Family entertainers in Telugu cinema run on soundtrack buzz the way other films run on trailers. Songs fill reels, soundtrack get looped in cars and at weddings weeks before the release date, and that chatter is what drags extended families into theatres on day one. Right now, Aadarsha Kutumbam doesn't have that going for it.

The irony is that Thaman and Trivikram are the pair who wrote the book on this exact kind of pre-release noise. Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo remains the gold standard, an album that gave Telugu cinema Samajavaragamana, Ramuloo Ramulaa and Butta Bomma, three songs that went well beyond the state and became a genuine part of that film's record-breaking run. That's the bar the duo set for themselves, and it's the bar they keep getting measured against.

They haven't cleared it since. Guntur Kaaram's album didn't give that film the lift everyone expected either. Kurchi Madathapetti went viral on the strength of its mass hook, but the rest of the soundtrack didn't stick. Aadarsha Kutumbam, on the early evidence of two singles, looks like it's following the same script.

None of this means the film is in trouble. Music is one input, not the whole equation, and Trivikram's films have survived shaky soundtracks before on the strength of writing, comedy and star presence. Venkatesh headlining a family drama from this director is still a proposition audiences will show up for on name value alone.

But the pressure has now shifted elsewhere. The trailer, whenever it drops, will have to do heavier lifting than usual, selling the emotion, the comedy and Venkatesh's screen presence without a hit song to carry the mood into theatres. There's also still a window for one more track before October 30, and in Telugu cinema one genuinely big song can flip the conversation around a film almost overnight.

For now, though, the wait continues. Fans are hoping the last stretch of promotion gives Thaman and Trivikram the hit they haven't managed to deliver together since Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, and Aadarsha Kutumbam the push its release date is counting on.
