The Cat in the Hat hits theatres on November 6, 2026 — and Warner Bros. Is betting big on it to fix a year that’s been anything but kind at the box office. After a string of underperformers like The Bride!, Supergirl, and Digger, which is already shaping up to be a financial loss, WB needs a win.

And this time, they’re leaning on Dr. Seuss, again. Not the live-action disaster of 2003, but a new animated take directed by Erica Rivinoja and Alessandro Carloni, with Bill Hader voicing the title character. The film follows the Cat as he tries to cheer up two siblings, Gabby (Xochitl Gomez) and Sebastian (Tiago Martinez), after their move to a new town.

It’s not a direct adaptation of the original book, but a fresh story set within the Seussian universe. That’s probably for the best. The last cinematic version didn’t just fail, it killed live-action Dr. Seuss movies for nearly two decades. This one, though, is expected to cost between $70 million and $90 million, a fraction of the 2003 film’s budget.

Still, it’s no sure thing. Box Office Theory projects a $25–$35 million opening weekend. That’s solid for an animated family film, especially with little competition until Disney’s Hexed over Thanksgiving. But the real test comes from the other side of the screen: Godzilla Minus Zero, also projected to open in the same range.

The sequel to the Oscar-winning 2023 film is riding momentum, and could easily steal the spotlight. Yet, the two aren’t necessarily rivals. One’s a whimsical kids’ adventure. The other, a high-stakes monster thriller.

They’re counter-programming gold. If The Cat in the Hat can hold its ground, it might just be the spark WB needs to salvage 2026. A $35 million debut would echo The Wild Robot’s surprise success. Even a modest $27 million could match GOAT’s performance.

Either way, the pressure’s on. The studio’s future in the DC Universe hinges on momentum, and now, so does its reputation. November 6 isn’t just a release date. It’s a reset button.
