The End of Oak Street didn't exactly light up multiplexes. Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed the film will hit digital platforms on September 15, with a 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD release following on November 3, according to JoBlo.com.
The studio's official synopsis describes a mysterious cosmic event that rips an entire suburban street away from its neighborhood and drops it somewhere unrecognizable. The Platt family, the ones stuck living through it, have to stick together to survive. David Robert Mitchell directs, and the cast includes Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella and Christian Convery.
Here's where things get a little odd. JoBlo critic Chris Bumbray reviewed the film glowingly, calling it, in his words, an almost perfect movie and one of the most purely enjoyable films of the year. He also described it as the best dinosaur movie since the original Jurassic Park. Which is strange, because nothing in the official plot description mentions dinosaurs at all. It's the kind of mismatch that happens when a studio synopsis and a critic's framing seem to be talking about two different films, and it's worth flagging rather than papering over.
Bumbray's one real complaint, going by his review, was a two-minute coda tacked on at the very end. He felt the film had a natural stopping point right before it and that the extra scene undercuts what would otherwise have been a stronger finish. Small gripe, big praise everywhere else, at least from his corner.
So why the home video push so soon, and why the underwhelming theatrical numbers despite reviews like that? Neither JoBlo's report nor Bumbray's review gets into box office specifics beyond noting the film underperformed relative to expectations. What we do know is the timeline. Two weeks from digital, just under two months to physical media, and a bundle of special features on the 4K and Blu-ray editions that Warner Bros. Discovery hasn't fully detailed yet.
For Indian audiences who track Hollywood sci-fi beyond the Marvel and DC churn, this one's worth watching for when it eventually lands on a streaming platform here, since a September digital date in the US doesn't automatically mean a same-day drop on Indian services. Mitchell's last big swing, It Follows, built its reputation slowly through word of mouth rather than opening weekend numbers. The End of Oak Street might end up following the same arc, just with a much bigger cast and a much stranger sales pitch.
Whether Indian streaming platforms pick this one up, and when, is still an open question. The November 3 physical release date, at least, is locked.
