Nine weeks in, and The Odyssey still refuses to slow down the way big releases usually do.

In India, Christopher Nolan's Greek epic has now collected Rs 219 crore net and Rs 258 crore gross over more than 60 days in theatres, according to trade estimates reported by Telugu Filmibeat. Maharashtra has been its strongest territory at Rs 58 crore, with Karnataka close behind at Rs 52 crore. Delhi has added Rs 41 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs 20.5 crore, Telangana Rs 20 crore and Gujarat Rs 10 crore. For a film built around Odysseus rather than any masala hook, that spread across states is unusual.

The real story, though, is where this puts the film globally.

According to Koimoi, The Odyssey crossed $600 million domestically this past weekend, becoming only the 18th Hollywood film ever to do so. It added $7.6 million in its ninth three-day weekend, down 42% from the week before, even after losing 329 theatres on Friday. Domestic cume now stands at $600.7 million. Overseas, the film pulled in $28.1 million over the same weekend, a comparatively gentle 15% drop, taking its international total to $1.09 billion across 82 markets. That puts the worldwide number at roughly $1.68 billion, a figure Universal itself put at $1.684 billion in an official announcement, per Telugu Filmibeat.

Chasing Inside Out 2, eyeing the top 10

That worldwide haul leaves The Odyssey a whisker away from overtaking Inside Out 2's lifetime total of $1.69 billion, which currently sits at the all-time #11 spot globally. Cross that, and Nolan's film becomes the highest-grossing entry of his career and Universal's biggest release ever, a milestone Koimoi flagged separately.

It doesn't stop there. Zootopia 2 currently holds the #10 spot on the all-time worldwide chart with $1.86 billion. Trade estimates cited by Koimoi suggest The Odyssey could finish its run anywhere between $1.8 billion and $1.9 billion, which would be enough to push past Zootopia 2 and land inside the top 10 grossers of all time. Telugu Filmibeat's report goes further, noting Avatar remains the benchmark at the very top with $2.9 billion, a number The Odyssey isn't within touching distance of, but the top-10 breach alone would be a rare feat for a film this grounded in historical fiction rather than franchise IP.

The film has also become the first ever to cross $500 million from IMAX screens alone, a format-specific record that says something about how audiences chose to watch it.

Budget-wise, trade sources quoted by Telugu Filmibeat put production costs at around $250 million with another $25 million spent on marketing, a $257 million outlay that now looks conservative against what's come back.

The film has been running since July 17. With weekend drops holding steady overseas even as domestic theatres thin out, the question now is simply how many of those top-10 positions it eats through before it finally leaves screens.
