The Odyssey is fading fast, but not without a fight. After a 65.7% plunge in its 12th weekend at the North American box office, the Christopher Nolan-directed mythological epic now plays in just 662 theatres — down from over 1,000, and has lost every IMAX screen it once held. According to Box Office Mojo, the film earned $1.3 million across three days, marking its steepest drop yet.
The decline follows the removal of another 359 theatres on Friday, including all remaining IMAX locations. It’s no longer the event it was when it opened on July 17. Still, the film remains within striking distance of a historic milestone: breaking into the all-time top 15 highest-grossing films in North America.
With a domestic cumulative total of $620.5 million, it currently ranks #16. Industry reports suggest it could finish between $625 million and $630 million. Enough to surpass The Avengers if it hits the upper end. That would make it the first Nolan film to crack that list.
