Prime Video may be expanding the Reacher universe beyond Jack Reacher himself — and this time, the spotlight could fall on Susan Turner. According to Lee Child, the creator of the Jack Reacher character, Turner is now positioned as a strong candidate for her own standalone series. The announcement comes as the franchise continues to grow, following the success of Neagley, the spin-off starring Maria Sten that already established the model for character-driven extensions.

Child confirmed his thoughts in an exclusive interview with Collider ahead of the release of Chain Reaction, the latest novel in the series co-written by Andrew Child. He noted that Turner’s return in the book was welcome, not just as a narrative device but as a potential franchise expansion opportunity.

‘I was glad that Andrew brought back Susan Turner,’ Child said. ‘Good character, but also a spin-off opportunity because we've already got Neagley, and Amazon tends to want as much as possible if it's working.’ He added: ‘And so, do they want another spin-off? In which case, she'll do.’ That line, brief and pointed, carries weight.

It’s not speculation. It’s a suggestion backed by the logic of the franchise’s current trajectory. Turner, once a supporting figure in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, has been elevated in the new novel to the rank of general. She now leads CSA G-99 Section, an elite military investigative unit that operates independently of standard command structures and reports directly to the Army’s Chief of Staff.

The unit functions as the Army’s internal intelligence arm, akin to an autonomous FBI within the military hierarchy. This isn’t just a title upgrade. It’s a shift in power, influence, and narrative function. Her role no longer hinges on Reacher’s presence.

She’s making decisions, setting investigations in motion, and commanding teams without needing a reason to step into the field. That independence is key. Unlike Reacher, who drifts from one crisis to the next, Turner is rooted in structure, yet still capable of operating outside it when necessary. That tension between order and disruption makes her compelling.

And it’s exactly the kind of dynamic that can sustain a series without relying on Reacher’s recurring appearances. Andrew Child, who has taken over the writing of the novels, echoed the practical reasoning behind reviving past characters. Speaking separately with Collider, he highlighted a persistent challenge in crafting Reacher stories: the need to justify why a man with no job, no home, and no fixed destination would get involved in someone else’s problem.

Bringing back someone from Reacher’s past, someone with institutional authority, offers a built-in reason for engagement. It’s not about convenience. It’s about continuity. The idea of a spin-off focused on Turner isn’t new.

But until now, it’s remained unspoken. Now, with both Child and Andrew Child pointing toward her potential, the possibility feels tangible. Whether Prime Video will act on it remains unknown. But the groundwork is laid.

The character has evolved. The story has changed. And the next chapter might not be about a man wandering through small towns. It could be about a woman running the system from within.
