Tom Pelphrey has an Emmy now. The two-time nominee won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series on Monday night for his turn as Robbie Prendergast in Brad Ingelsby's HBO crime drama Task, edging out a stacked field that included The Pitt's Patrick Ball, Shawn Hatosy and Gerran Howell, The Morning Show's Billy Crudup, Slow Horses' Jack Lowden and Pluribus' Carlos-Manuel Vesga.

He didn't spend much of his speech on the competition. He spent it on his family.

"To my favorite actor in this room, my love, my best friend, my partner, the very pregnant Kaley Cuoco," Pelphrey said from the stage at the Peacock Theater. "I love you more than anything, and our family is the crown jewel of my life."

Cuoco, who is expecting the couple's second child, had walked the red carpet earlier in the evening but skipped interviews. She and Pelphrey are already parents to a three-year-old daughter, Matilda, who got her own shoutout. "Matilda, Daddy loves you," he said, before addressing the baby still on the way. "Baby girl in that belly. Daddy loves you."

Sobriety, a friendship with Ruffalo, and a role that landed at the right time

Pelphrey opened his speech by saying how grateful he is for his sobriety, a detail he's returned to before in interviews about his career. He also thanked Task creator Ingelsby directly, calling him "an amazing human being," and singled out castmates Raúl Castillo and Emilia Jones along with what he called his friend, Mark Ruffalo.

On Task, Pelphrey's Robbie spends the season being hunted by Ruffalo's Tom Brandis, an FBI agent. The two actors hadn't worked together before the show. Speaking to reporters backstage, Pelphrey said Ruffalo brought something harder to name than chemistry. "There's a lot of amazing ways to be a good partner, and Mark did all of the silent, kind of invisible things," he said. "He knew when to joke and when to be sort of still."

Pelphrey also connected the role to his own life, saying fatherhood reshaped how he read Robbie. "The character was a beautiful opportunity to express something that I just learned in my own life, which was becoming a father and how I would do anything for my child," he told reporters. "This is the magical mystery of what we do when it's right at the right time."

The award was handed out by Rachel Sennott and Odessa A'zion, who used the moment for a bit about their category. "We are thrilled to be presenting the award for supporting actor in a drama because we are major supporters of actor drama," Sennott said, before A'zion added that two men yelling at each other after hours in hair and makeup is, in her words, the drink.

For Pelphrey, the win caps a run that started with two prior nominations and no statuette. Task's fate beyond a possible second season hasn't been addressed by HBO. Cuoco's due date hasn't been shared either, which means the family the actor thanked on stage is about to get bigger before anyone knows if Robbie Prendergast gets a second run.
