The Tamil Nadu-based Tamizh Vanatchi Katchi (TVK) has officially entered the India Alliance, according to Congress leader Manickam Tagore, who made the announcement at a coalition meet in Chennai. The decision follows high-level discussions involving representatives from Congress, Left parties, and the Muslim League.

The alliance push comes amid rising anger over Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with protests planned across districts on October 13 and 14, culminating in a large-scale demonstration in Chennai on the 15th. Congress has invited Vijay, TVK’s leader, to address the rally — though he has not publicly responded to the invitation.

Despite earlier criticism for staying out of the alliance due to lacking parliamentary representation, Congress now argues that national solidarity outweighs such technicalities in the face of widespread dissent. The party claims TVK’s inclusion strengthens the opposition’s reach, especially in Tamil Nadu.

DMK had previously accused TVK of remaining neutral to appease the BJP, suggesting the party was prioritizing central government favors over regional unity. But with TVK now present at the alliance’s key gathering, the narrative appears to be shifting.

Still, uncertainty lingers. While TVK leaders attended the meeting, no official statement has been issued by Vijay himself. His silence leaves open questions about whether he’ll attend the October 15 rally or participate in Delhi-based protests. Without his presence, the alliance’s credibility in Tamil Nadu may remain unproven.

The next few days will determine if this is a strategic realignment, or just another political gesture ahead of elections.
