The actor says farmers on his newly bought land told him about vanishing zinc and magnesium in the soil, and he wants to know what can be done about it.

Varun Dhawan bought farmland recently, and it looks like the purchase has turned into something more than a real estate decision. The actor has posted on social media about a conversation he had with the farmers working the land, and he's asking his followers, not telling them, what should be done about it.

According to Bollywood Hungama, Dhawan wrote about what he learned during a visit to the property. "When I visited my farm, the farmers told me that today's soil lacks natural nutrients that used to be present before. The seeds are also devoid of those nutrients - zinc, magnesium. The chemicals are affecting all it. But sadly, that is what we are consuming, everyone is consuming, and it is very worrisome. It has been giving me sleepless nights, and I just wanted to know from people who are into farming and produce - what is the solution. What is the way to combat this?" he wrote.

That's not a small thing to lose sleep over. The depletion of micronutrients in farmland, zinc and magnesium among them, is something agricultural scientists have been flagging for years, usually tied to intensive cultivation and years of chemical input. The consequence lands on the plate eventually, in produce that's grown but not necessarily nourishing.

What's notable here isn't that Dhawan bought a farm. Plenty of actors do that, park money in land, post a few pretty photos, move on. Dhawan's earlier posts about the property leaned into that mood too, all enthusiasm about taking up "kheti." This one reads different. He isn't performing expertise he doesn't have. He's asking people who actually know the land for answers he doesn't.

Whether that gets him anything useful is an open question. Instagram comment sections aren't usually where soil science gets solved. But Dhawan has a following that most agronomists don't, and putting a concern like this in front of millions of people who'd otherwise never think about what's missing from their vegetables is, at minimum, a start.

The actor has been busy on other fronts too, recently urging audiences to catch Hanuman Ansh in theatres. But this farm post feels like it comes from somewhere more personal than promotion. Whether he follows up with actual changes on his land, or whether this stays a one-off post, is something only time and his next update will tell.
