Vijay Varma has put an end to a day's worth of guessing. Matka King is coming back for a second season, and he's confirmed it himself, script in hand.

It started on Tuesday with a cryptic post. Vijay shared a picture thanking spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, calling it the start of something new, and gave nothing else away. Fans spent the next day cycling through his upcoming projects trying to guess what he meant.

He cleared it up with a selfie from the production office, standing in front of the Matka King poster, captioned "At the office for…" Then came the reveal that mattered: a photo of the script for the show's opening episode. The title page reads "Season 2 x Episode 1: Ek Aur Baazi," credited to writer Abhay Koranne. Vijay's caption was just as economical. "Ek aur baazi;)" he wrote, with the show's title track playing underneath.

One more bet, then. Fitting, for a show built entirely around the gamble.

Brij Bhatti returns

Vijay is back as Brij Bhatti, the character he built the first season around. That season traced Bhatti's climb through the matka gambling trade in 1950s Bombay, and Vijay went through a proper physical transformation for the part, complete with a period-specific look that became something of a talking point when the show first landed on Prime Video.

No plot details for season 2 have come out yet. Bollywood Hungama's coverage doesn't get into where the new season picks up or who else is joining Bhatti's world this time. But the episode title, Ek Aur Baazi, does enough on its own. Another round, another bet, the same high-stakes machinery that made the first season work.

Production is officially underway now that the first script is out, which puts Matka King on the list of Prime Video's Hindi shows actively shooting rather than just announced. No premiere window has been mentioned, and given the season's just gone into production, a release date is probably months off.

Worth remembering that Vijay picked up the Best Performance award for Matka King at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2026 earlier this year, which makes the character a reasonably safe bet for the platform to keep funding. His own reaction to the win was characteristically understated, something along the lines of feeling lucky to have gotten the part in the first place.

For now, the confirmation is the story. The script pages, the poster, the caption with a winking emoticon. Everything else, plot, cast additions, when it actually drops, stays locked up for later. Vijay's clearly enjoying the slow reveal. Whether the show's writers can top the first season's world is the actual question, and that one doesn't get answered until the cameras roll.
