The footage has been doing the rounds since the event, which brought together Kohli, Rohit Sharma and other Team India regulars for Muthoot FinCorp's unveiling as the new title sponsor of India's home cricket, a partnership that runs through March 2028. But context has never stopped a clip from becoming a conversation, especially this one. Kohli and Gambhir go back a long way, and not always pleasantly. Their on-field needle as players is well documented, and every gesture between them since Gambhir took over as head coach gets read for subtext. So a two-second brush-past was always going to get dissected frame by frame.
Here's the thing, though. Watch the full clip and there isn't much to actually go on. It's a crowded event, people are moving in different directions, and Kohli stopping for an autograph a few feet from Gambhir doesn't automatically mean he clocked the coach and chose to ignore him. That series matters more than any autograph queue. Kohli continues to be central to India's one-day plans, Rohit remains in the mix, and Gambhir is the man shaping selection and strategy as the team builds toward the 2027 ODI World Cup.
So the actual story here isn't a walk-past at a sponsor event. It's whether this trio, whatever their history, can get India's white-ball rebuild moving in the right direction starting this weekend. The Thiruvananthapuram opener will tell us a lot more about that than any viral clip ever could.
