Vishesh Sharma stood over a long lag putt on the 18th green at Hyderabad Golf Association with the biggest week of his young career riding on it. He rolled it close, tapped in, and at 19, on the course where he grew up watching pros as a kid, he had his first professional title.

The home favourite closed the INR 1 crore Telangana Golconda Masters with a one-under 69 to finish at 21-under 259, one stroke clear of Noida's Amardeep Malik. It's the 12th edition of the tournament and Vishesh's 33rd start on the DP World PGTI since he joined last season. His previous best was a sixth-place finish at the Boulders Classic back in April.

He didn't have it easy. Vishesh carried a four-shot cushion into the final round but a double bogey on the par-four 13th let Malik claw the gap down to one. "The double bogey came down to nerves," Vishesh said. "I hit one poor shot and then attempted a recovery that wasn't really available, so I paid the price." He answered with back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15 to steady himself before that closing lag putt sealed it.

"I'm over the moon. It still hasn't completely sunk in," he said. "To claim my first professional title at 19, and to do it at my home course, makes this victory incredibly special."

Malik, 41, wasn't going quietly either. His closing 66 included an eagle on the sixth and six birdies, though two bogeys and a double bogey kept the margin at one. He picked up INR 10 lakh and moved to 19th on the Order of Merit.

Elsewhere on the leaderboard, Chandigarh's Akshay Sharma produced the round of the week, a 10-under 60 with an eagle and 10 birdies, including four in a row from the third to the sixth. That got him into a share of third at 19-under, alongside Delhi's Honey Baisoya, who now sits third on the season money list with earnings past INR 57 lakh.

There was no shortage of theatre elsewhere either. Defending champion Jamal Hossain of Bangladesh, who finished well down the field, made a hole-in-one on the par-three third during his final round, the fourth ace of the week at HGA after earlier ones from Abhinav Lohan, Anshul Kabthiyal and Harman Sachdeva.

For Vishesh, the win comes full circle. He first watched a DP World PGTI event at this very course as a junior back in 2021. "To have watched the professionals here as a youngster, then compete on the same course and now win a title is difficult to put into perspective," he said.

The INR 15 lakh cheque pushes his season earnings to INR 30,93,550 and lifts him from 25th to 14th on the 2026 Order of Merit, enough to lock in a spot at the season-ending DP World India Championship. Rankings leader Saptak Talwar, fresh off a summer on the HotelPlanner Tour, finished tied 11th and still tops the money list at over INR 89 lakh. The Race to the DP World India Championship rolls on, with 24 spots up for grabs and Vishesh now firmly in the mix.
