Gungun Dutta says she filmed the man after he kept staring and passing comments at her and her relatives while she waited for a train to arrive.
A video shot at Assam's Kamakhya railway station has set off a wave of anger online, after a woman said a man repeatedly followed her, stared at her group and made inappropriate gestures while she waited for a train.
The woman, Gungun Dutta, posted the footage on Instagram. She says she'd gone to the station to see off a relative. Nothing unusual about that, except the man who wouldn't stop looking her way.
"I went to the railway station to drop off one of my relatives," Dutta says in the clip. "We had reached the station about half an hour ago and while we were waiting for the train, this guy kept on staring at us and was continuously passing some comments from the side."
She says she pulled out her phone once the staring turned into something she couldn't ignore. "So, I thought of recording it and as soon as he saw that I had taken out my phone, he left from there," she says.
He didn't stay gone. According to Dutta's account, the man came back when the train pulled in, boarded it briefly, then got off again once he noticed she was still filming. The video shows him lingering on the platform even after that, with Dutta recording him through the train window as it departed.
In the footage, per Dutta's telling, the man can be seen making lewd gestures in her direction, at one point putting his hand inside his trousers while he stood nearby. He's described as wearing a grey polo shirt, brown shorts and flip-flops, and appears to be on a phone call through most of the clip.
None of this has been independently verified beyond the video and Dutta's own narration of it. No arrest has been reported, and there's no confirmation yet of whether railway police have identified the man.
That hasn't stopped the clip from spreading fast. Comments range from fury to practical advice. One user tagged Assam Police, the CMO and Indian Railways directly, writing that authorities needed to "increase patrolling" and track the man down before he could "think of hurting anyone." Another called the footage "genuinely terrifying and heartbreaking to watch," adding that men "need to look at ourselves and do better." A third had a blunter suggestion for women in similar situations: grab the man by the collar and march him straight to the GRP post or the station master's office.
Whether Kamakhya station's Government Railway Police act on the video remains to be seen. For now, it's Dutta's word and her phone camera against a man whose identity nobody official has confirmed, and a comment section demanding someone finally does.
