For the first time, winning Best Film at Busan means automatic Oscar eligibility. The Academy’s move has already changed submission patterns, especially from China and Japan. Korean filmmakers are now eyeing the prize as a launchpad. With Zhang Yimou leading the jury and stars like Michelle Yeoh and Alfonso Cuarón in attendance, the stakes feel higher than ever.
Zhang Yimou will preside over Busan International Film Festival's main competition jury this October, joined by Bi Gan, Moon Choi and four others judging 13 films for prizes worth $80,000.
