On August 8, Warner Bros. opens the movie in theatres. Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, and Alden Ehrenreich are among the cast members.
Weapons' multi-story plot revolves around a tiny village where kids have started going missing in the middle of the night. In the trailer, a character uses voiceover to sadly explain, "Those kids walked out of the homes." Nobody dragged them out. Nobody coerced them.

Producers include Cregger, Roy Lee, J.D. Lifshitz, Raphael Margules, and Miri Yoon.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter in early 2023, Cregger's spec script for Weapons was awarded to New Line after a heated bidding war, and the director was hired to write and direct the film. Under the direction of Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgard, and Justin Long, Barbarian debuted in theatres in 2022 and went on to become a cult favourite, grossing over $45 million worldwide.

Earlier this month, Cregger shared the first Weapons footage on the CinemaCon stage in Las Vegas. Richard Brener, the head of New Line, said during the presentation that the film was "interesting and unpredictable, with a nice helping of batshit insane."

As a member of the comedy ensemble The Whitest Kids U' Know, the director began his career in Hollywood. He has starred in the television shows Dads With Kids and Wrecked. The Resident Evil series relaunch that Cregger is writing and directing comes next; THR revealed last month that Abrams, star of Weapons, is being considered for the main role.
