Aamir Khan is circling a superhero film again, and this time the names attached are Sajid Nadiadwala and R. Balki, according to a report by Bollywood Hungama that describes the project as an exclusive scoop.

The outlet's sources say the discussions are at a nascent stage. The script is being written, Aamir has been approached and has shown interest, but there's no formal commitment from him yet. That tracks with how the actor typically operates. He likes a locked screenplay before he signs on, and the report says Nadiadwala and Balki's team are working with that in mind, with the next few months expected to decide whether the project actually moves forward.

If it does happen, it would be new territory on more than one front. Aamir and Nadiadwala have been friendly for years but have never made a film together. And Balki, known for Cheeni Kum, Paa, Ki & Ka, Pad Man and Chup, has built his career mostly with Amitabh Bachchan while steering clear of Bollywood's big Khans. He explained why back in 2017: "If I start thinking of making a film with them right now, I will get quite old by the time I start... I'd rather be more practical." Nearly a decade on, he's reportedly trying to build something big with Aamir anyway.

Given Balki's track record of twisting familiar formats into something unexpected, whatever this superhero film turns out to be probably won't look like the genre's usual playbook in India.

This isn't Aamir's first brush with a cape-and-powers script either. Last year he was deep in conversation with Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj on a pan-India superhero project, complete with multiple narrations over months. That one didn't survive script troubles and was eventually shelved.

Two projects, same stage

The Balki-Nadiadwala talks surface right after word that Aamir is also in touch about Race 4. Sources cited in the same report are careful to note both projects are just conversations right now and may or may not go anywhere. It leaves Aamir with a fairly crowded slate of maybes.

What's actually locked for him is Ashutosh Gowariker's Lalkaara, the period sports drama built around the 1952 India-Pakistan Test series, which goes on floors in November 2026. Reports this week also had Dhurandhar actor Danish Pandor joining that cast, with Vikrant Massey not part of the film. After Lalkaara, Aamir is expected to move to Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots sequel, though that too is still in development.

Which of these actually reaches a set first is anyone's guess right now. The superhero film needs a finished script before Aamir even considers a signature, and that's the part nobody's rushing.
