Aaron Paul is in Clayface. You'll miss him if you blink. Director James Watkins confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the three-time Emmy winner appears for a single beat — as Matt Hagen's father, Jimmy 'One Nut' Hagen, during the climactic Club Vesuvius showdown. Matt, played by Tom Rhys Harries, shape-shifts into his old man's face to spook the gangster who killed him years earlier.
That's it. No flashbacks. No backstory. Just a quick morph and a kill.
Watkins said the script originally carried Paul through Matt's youth in Gotham's slums. Those scenes hit the cutting room floor. 'How much is Matt defined by his past and how much is he an everyman?' Watkins told EW. The answer: revenge works better than trauma.
