ABC News has finally settled its weekend anchor puzzle. Rachel Scott takes over Saturdays on Good Morning America starting September 12, paired with Whit Johnson, while Rhiannon Ally steps into the Sunday slot alongside Gio Benitez. Both moves were confirmed by Variety and Deadline on Tuesday.

The seats had been open since April, when Janai Norman left the program after her contract wasn't renewed. ABC has used the months since to audition and shuffle talent across its news division before locking in Scott and Ally as the permanent faces of the weekend broadcast.

Scott isn't new to the building. She joined ABC News as a production associate back in 2016 and has spent the years since climbing to senior political correspondent, covering the White House and Capitol Hill out of Washington. Deadline notes she reported live from Butler, Pennsylvania, in the moments after the 2024 assassination attempt on Donald Trump, anchored the network's coverage when Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race, and drew wide attention for a pointed question to Vladimir Putin at a 2021 press conference. She'll keep the political beat even as she adds Saturday mornings in New York to her plate.

Ally brings her own résumé. She joined ABC News in 2021 after stints at KSHB in Kansas City, WFOR in Miami and WCBS in New York, and most recently co-anchored World News Now and Good Morning America First Look. Per Deadline, she led coverage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore and anchored overnight coverage of the deaths of both Queen Elizabeth II and Pope Francis.

Rounding out the new lineup is Leslie Lopez, who joins as weekend meteorologist for both teams. She came to ABC News in April after nearly a decade at KABC in Los Angeles, where she handled the early morning weather slots.

"We know weekend mornings are precious to our audience," said Simone Swink, senior executive producer of the GMA franchise, in a statement carried by Variety, adding that the network "could not be more excited" about the new team and expects the anchors to show up on weekday broadcasts too.

The four anchors won't just be doing linear television. They'll also rotate through ABC News Live Weekend, the streaming news block that kicks off at 10 a.m. ET on Disney+, Hulu and the ABC News app, giving the network a single bench of talent working across both its broadcast and streaming weekend coverage.

For now, the change is a scheduling story, not a ratings one. Whether Scott and Ally can hold or grow GMA's weekend numbers is the thing ABC will be watching once the new pairings settle in over the coming weeks.
