Alpha’s global debut on Netflix at No. 3 didn’t come with a roar. It came with silence — so thick, even the streamers felt it. Taran Adarsh, who once called Saiyaara a glow-in-the-dark moment, walked out of the theatre after Alpha with nothing to say. Not because he was speechless.
Because he’d already said it: a beautiful body without a soul. That line, repeated across two outlets in less than six hours, isn’t just critique. It’s a verdict. A studio-level reckoning.
Yash Raj Films has built its name on romance, and still, it stumbles when it steps into action. War 2? Failed. Alpha?
Nowhere near the mark. The film had everything, Alia Bhatt’s intensity, Sharvari’s grit, choreography that could’ve powered a gym ad. But the story? Weak.
So weak, Adarsh says, he couldn’t stop checking his watch during previews. He wasn’t alone. The restlessness was visible. On screen, two women fight for survival.
Off it, one critic sat wondering what the point was. He went in comparing it to Dhurandhar, another spy film from the same universe. And while he admits comparisons aren’t fair, the gap between expectation and execution was real. Yash Raj isn’t new to risk.
Ek Tha Tiger, Mardaani. Both worked. But this time, the formula cracked. Not because the genre is dead.
Because the script wasn’t alive. The studio’s identity is still rooted in love stories. But if they’re going to make spies, they’ll need more than polish. They’ll need purpose.
Right now, Alpha is a well-dressed ghost. Streaming globally. Unseen by most. And that’s the real box office failure.
