American Horror Story season 13 is back — and so are the witches. The Coven, in full force, has returned to the franchise’s dark heart, with Jessica Lange stepping into the role of Fiona Goode, Cordelia’s mother, after a resurrection that left fans screaming at their screens. The seventh episode, titled 'The Baddest Witch Of Them All', delivered one of the most electric moments in the series’ history: Cordelia Goode, seemingly dead from an axe to the head at the hands of Evan Peters’ James Patrick March, was brought back to life, not by magic, but by her mother’s return. It wasn’t just a plot twist. It was a reckoning. A homecoming. A reunion of the original Coven, now reassembled for what Ryan Murphy claims could be the final chapter. Though he’s already admitted he’d love to keep going forever. That contradiction? Classic AHS. And it’s working. Lange, who last played a regular on the show in season four and made a guest appearance in season eight, didn’t come back for just any role. She demanded, and got. The chance to play all four of her iconic characters across the franchise. Constance Langdon, Fiona Goode, and two others (including a surprise cameo as Margaret Thatcher in a sacrificial ritual) were part of the deal. ‘It was like a return to something that had been the beginning,’ she said. And when Murphy told her he’d only move forward if she came back, she knew she’d have to say yes. Not because of the money. Not even because of the fame. But because the cast, Sarah Paulson, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman. Was still a family. Paulson, who hadn’t appeared in the series since season nine, said she only agreed when she heard Lange was returning. ‘Well, then I’m doing it,’ she said. No hesitation. She’s now playing five roles across the season, Ms. Venable, Hypodermic Sally, Mamie Eisenhower, Tuberculosis Karen, and a brief flash of another. One scene, lasting less than 20 seconds, saw her jump into a hell mouth. Fans are already demanding more Karen. Lourd, meanwhile, got to play two characters this time. Winter and Mallory, though she joked she wouldn’t fit in Montana’s aerobics suit anymore. Still, she called it ‘gratifying’. And while the season leans heavily into nostalgia, Murphy isn’t promising closure. He says he wants to do AHS ‘forever’. So is this really the end? Or just the next act in a cycle that never ends? The answer may lie in the next episode. But one thing’s certain: the Coven is back. And they’re not leaving quietly.
