The Anbil Avan team got together for a success meet on Monday evening, and the headline number everyone wanted was out in the open within minutes: the film has entered the profit zone.

Director R. Karthikeyan made the announcement, pointing out that Anbil Avan released on a Friday crowded with multiple other titles and still found an audience. He credited the jump in screen count for giving the film extra momentum through its first week, and thanked Yuvraaj for backing the project through its journey.

Producer Abinaya Selvam filled in the numbers that mattered most. She said Day 3 collections actually beat the opening day, which is the kind of trajectory every producer hopes for but few get. Shows started increasing from Saturday, she added, crediting both the online and offline promotion teams for pushing the film once word started spreading. Co-producer Kavitha Pandian echoed the sentiment, saying the team was overwhelmed by how audiences responded once the buzz picked up.

Ashok Selvan, who leads the film opposite Preity Mukundhan, put the recovery down squarely to word of mouth. He didn't pretend the film was flawless either, admitting Anbil Avan has its share of rough edges while backing it to find a bigger audience once it lands on OTT. That's not a new pattern for him. He brought up Kootathil Oruthan and Nitham Oru Vaanam, two of his earlier films that got a lukewarm first reaction in theatres before picking up fans later. He's betting Anbil Avan follows the same arc, and he's urging people to catch it on the big screen before that window closes.

The film itself is built on a swerve. It opens as a fairly straightforward romantic drama between Selvan and Mukundhan, then pivots into mystery, thriller and action territory as it goes along, a structural choice that's been one of the bigger talking points around the release. Selvan said the shift was a deliberate experiment, and that a chunk of the audience has told the team it landed for them personally.

Abinaya Selvam also used the platform to talk up her cast and crew, singling out Preity Mukundhan's commitment to the role and calling the set a unified unit through production. She thanked director Karthikeyan for shaping the film and composer Govind Vasantha for the score, which she said gave the film its emotional texture.

Mukundhan, for her part, got visibly emotional recalling her first watch of the finished film, calling the project a genuine milestone for her and thanking the press for sticking with the team from the start.

With the profit zone confirmed and a second week approaching, the real test now is whether Anbil Avan can hold its screens against the next batch of Friday releases, or whether, like Selvan's past films, its real audience shows up only once it streams.
