Anne Hathaway has had a busy 2026, and the projections for her next release are already doing rounds a full three weeks before it opens. Verity, the fourth Colleen Hoover novel to get the big-screen treatment, is tracking for a $30 million to $40 million domestic opening weekend, according to early estimates from Box Office Pro.

That number needs context, because Hathaway's year has been a study in contrasts. The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan's epic, opened past the $100 million mark and just set a worldwide IMAX record. The End of Oak Street, her other thriller, is still limping through cinemas. Verity sits somewhere in between as a mid-budget bet on the Hoover brand doing what it did for It Ends With Us.

And that's the real yardstick here. It Ends With Us, the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni film from 2024, remains the highest-grossing Hoover adaptation, with a $50 million opening weekend that Verity isn't projected to touch. But the two Hoover films released earlier this year, Regretting You and Reminders of Him, opened at $13.6 million and $17.8 million respectively. Against those, a $30-40 million range would be a clear step up.

Where Verity lands in Hathaway's own 2026 ledger is a little murkier. Koimoi's own report calls it a shot at her second-biggest debut of the year, then walks that back a paragraph later, placing it third behind The Odyssey and The Devil Wears Prada 2. Either way, the film should comfortably beat The End of Oak Street's numbers if the estimate holds.

Directed by Michael Showalter, Verity is described as a psychological erotic thriller, adapted from Hoover's novel about Lowen Ashleigh, a writer hired to finish the unpublished manuscripts of a bestselling author left incapacitated after an accident. Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett round out the principal cast, alongside Hathaway.

The premise leans into the kind of domestic-suspense territory that made Hoover a publishing phenomenon in the first place, an unfinished manuscript, a disturbing discovery, questions about what really happened to the author whose voice the new writer is meant to be channelling. Whether that translates to opening-weekend urgency at the multiplex is the actual test here, tracking numbers are just a starting bid.

Verity opens in North America on October 2. Box Office Pro's estimate will firm up as the release date nears, and actual Friday numbers, as always, could land anywhere in or outside that range. For now, the film has three weeks to convert Hoover's readership into ticket buyers, and Hathaway has three weeks to find out if 2026 gives her a fourth hit to go with The Odyssey.
