Anupam Kher has stepped into the mythic role of Jatayu in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming two-part cinematic adaptation of the Ramayana, as the film’s latest character poster drops with a dramatic new title: The Wings of Dharma. The visual — a close-up of the eagle’s intense gaze flanked by a wide-angle shot of his outstretched wings, points to the character’s defiance in the face of overwhelming evil. The makers’ social media post frames the moment with a line that echoes through the epic: When evil took flight, courage rose to meet it. He fought not for victory, but for what was right. That ethos is now anchored in Kher’s voice, which will bring Jatayu to life in the film’s first instalment, set for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026. Part 2 is expected during Diwali 2027. The casting marks another key reveal in a series that has already introduced Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana. The film is being produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG, the eight-time Oscar-winning visual effects house, and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. It will be released across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, with an IMAX version also planned. Sony Pictures will handle international distribution outside India, while Dharma Productions manages the Hindi market. The decision to cast Kher. Known for his commanding presence and deep vocal range, signals a deliberate move toward gravitas in a project aiming to balance spectacle with spiritual resonance. Jatayu’s story, in the original Ramayana, is one of sacrifice: he attempts to rescue Sita from Ravana despite knowing the odds were insurmountable. His stand becomes a defining act of dharma. Now, with Kher at the helm, that moment is being reimagined not just as action, but as moral testimony. The film’s momentum builds with each new reveal. Advance bookings are set to open in eight days. The internet is split. Some calling it a disaster, others hailing the poster’s aesthetic and emotional weight. But one thing remains certain: when Jatayu speaks, it won’t be to win. It’ll be to uphold what’s right.
