Anushka Sen is set to step onto the international stage once more, this time in Newport Beach, California. Her latest project, Jeju Olle, a Korea-India co-production starring her alongside Kang Hyung-seok, will have its North American premiere at the 27th Newport Beach Film Festival on October 21. The screening, scheduled for 7:30 PM at Screen 1 of Regal Edwards Big Newport — the festival’s largest auditorium, marks the film’s first public showing in North America. It has been selected under the festival’s Korean Spotlight programme, spotlighting cross-cultural storytelling and cinematic collaboration between South Korea and India. Directed and written by Jin Kwang-Kyo, the 148-minute film follows Alisha, an Indian star who steps away from the spotlight after losing her beloved cousin and longtime manager. She travels to Jeju Island to fulfill a promise they made together. There, she unexpectedly meets Ha Sun-woo, a former K-pop idol who has also retreated from the industry after personal setbacks. Over the course of a week, the two form an unexpected bond as they explore the island, share music, and confront emotional wounds from their pasts. Shot in Korean, Hindi, and English, the film blends elements of Korean romantic drama with the musical spirit of Indian cinema, exploring themes of love, healing, and new beginnings. For Sen, the festival screening carries deep personal significance. ‘Representing India in different parts of the world has always been a dream for me,’ she said in a statement. ‘Every time I get an opportunity to represent my country, it feels super special, and I feel extra grateful for it.’ She added that the film is ‘very close to my heart’ and expressed excitement about sharing it with a new audience. The project, produced by Storyworks Co., Ltd. And Lucifer Production, represents another milestone in the growing exchange between Indian and Korean filmmakers. With its journey now extending from India and Korea to North America, Jeju Olle continues its global festival run. Sen is expected to attend the premiere, celebrating the film’s international reach and the collaborative effort behind it. The screening will be a key moment not just for the film, but for the visibility of Indian talent on global platforms.
