Speaking at the event, the director said he belonged to an older generation that had little idea what happened inside the Secretariat or what an assembly even did. Things have changed, he said, pointing out that five-year-olds today follow politics and government affairs far more closely than his generation ever did. From there he moved to actor Vijay, who has since floated his own political outfit. Atlee's line, as reported by Filmibeat Tamil: Vijay isn't just building a new generation, he's building a strong one. Politics, he added, has always been dismissed as something that isn't for us. He doesn't buy that anymore.

Within hours, old footage resurfaced of Atlee's wife at an Ambani family wedding, wearing a jacket embroidered with the names of the groom and the bride. Filmibeat Tamil reported that this clip, dug up and recirculated, became the anchor for a fresh round of trolling. The framing from critics online, per the outlet: a director who happily played up his closeness to one of India's richest families has no business lecturing anyone about people's politics.
The jokes escalated from there. One meme making the rounds shows Atlee handing a tailor his wife's jacket and asking for it to read a line borrowed from Vijay's own film dialogue, reworked into a jab about not picking a fight with the actor. Others accused Atlee of leaning on formula in every film he has made since leaving Tamil cinema for Bollywood, and questioned why he was weighing in on Tamil Nadu politics at all after relocating for bigger opportunities. Some commenters went further, using the moment to take swipes at Vijay's party itself, calling its members unfit for political commentary, according to the same report.
Atlee has not responded to any of it, at least not publicly, and there's no indication yet that he plans to. Sources close to the Pathaa team haven't addressed the row either, and the film's own promotional push seems to have been swallowed whole by a fight over five seconds of stage talk.
What happens next probably depends on whether Vijay's camp, or Atlee himself, decides this needs a response at all. Tamil film Twitter rarely lets these things die quietly, and with Pathaa still building toward release, expect the audio launch clip to keep resurfacing every time the director's name comes up.
