Sixteen days in, and Bethlehem Kudumba Unit has quietly rewritten the Malayalam box office charts.

On its third Saturday in theatres, the Nivin Pauly-Mamitha Baiju rom-com pulled in ₹5.65 crore net in India, a number healthy enough to push its 16-day domestic net to ₹113.45 crore, or ₹134.44 crore gross, according to Koimoi. Add ₹117 crore from overseas and the worldwide total lands at ₹251.44 crore.

That Saturday number did something more than pad the total. It moved the film past Mohanlal's Drishyam 3 and the sleeper hit Manjummel Boys, making Bethlehem Kudumba Unit the third-highest grossing Malayalam film of all time. Only L2: Empuraan and Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra sit ahead of it now, and Koimoi's report suggests both are within reach if the current pace holds.

What makes the run notable is timing. Dulquer Salmaan's fantasy thriller I'm Game opened this past week, the kind of release that usually chips into whatever's already running. It hasn't. Koimoi's numbers show Bethlehem Kudumba Unit's daily collections have stayed above I'm Game's through the weekend, an odd inversion for a film in its third week going up against a fresh big-ticket entry.

The film released for Onam, which in Kerala is close to a guaranteed opening weekend, but Onam bumps fade fast. This one hasn't. Three weekends deep, a rom-com is still outperforming a new release with a bigger star name attached, and that's the kind of word-of-mouth trajectory trade watchers don't see every Onam season.

The path to the top isn't settled yet. L2: Empuraan carries the kind of scale, and Lokah the kind of genre novelty, that made both instant benchmarks when they released. Closing that gap will need Bethlehem Kudumba Unit to keep posting numbers like Saturday's well into its fourth week, past the point where most films this size start bleeding shows.

For now, the film has done what it needed to. It's cleared Drishyam 3, cleared Manjummel Boys, and it's still adding roughly ₹5-6 crore a day domestically at a stage in its run when most films have halved that. Whether it gets to number one depends on how the next two weekends hold, and whether exhibitors keep the screen count up as competition stacks in around it.

Mollywood's all-time list hasn't had this much movement in a single fortnight in a while. The next update on where Bethlehem Kudumba Unit stands against Lokah will likely come within the week.
