Six versions of the same show, six hosts, one night. That's the pitch Endemol Shine India is making with Bigg Boss Season 20, which premieres September 6 with its Hindi, Bangla, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam editions all launching together for the first time in the franchise's history.
Salman Khan anchors the Hindi edition, as he has for years now. Sourav Ganguly hosts Bigg Boss Bangla. Kichcha Sudeep is back for Kannada, Nagarjuna Akkineni fronts Telugu, Vijay Sethupathi takes Tamil and Mohanlal returns for Malayalam. Six stars, six states, one release date. Endemol Shine India, part of Banijay Entertainment, is calling it a first for Indian reality TV, and going by the scale of it, that's not really an overstatement. According to the production house, all six hosts will also appear on screen together as part of the launch, a crossover moment the format has never attempted before.
The timing isn't an accident. This is Bigg Boss's 20th year on air, and Endemol Shine India has built the anniversary season around the idea that the country watches the same show, on the same night, in whichever language it prefers. That's a neat trick for a franchise that has always run its language editions on separate calendars, sometimes months apart. Syncing all six to one premiere date means the marketing push, the trailers, the countdown clocks, all land at once instead of trickling out state by state.
For Salman Khan, this is another lap in a run he's owned for close to two decades. He's back as host and, per the show's own description, as mentor too, which usually means he'll keep running Weekend Ka Vaar the way he always has, calling out contestants, defusing fights, occasionally starting new ones. Nothing here suggests that format is changing. What's changing is the noise around it, with five other Bigg Boss houses opening their doors on the same evening.
The Hindi season airs daily at 9 PM on JioHotstar, with a delayed 10:30 PM slot on Colors TV, the same dual-window setup the show has used through its recent seasons. Bollywood Hungama reports similar day-one timings for the other language editions, though exact slot details for each regional broadcaster weren't specified.
What this really tests is whether a shared premiere date pulls in cross-language viewership, Hindi audiences dipping into the Tamil house out of curiosity, say, or whether each edition simply keeps its own regional base and the simultaneous launch stays a marketing flex rather than a ratings one. Endemol Shine India's Khatron Ke Khiladi: Darr Ka Naya Daur already topped the non-fiction charts for 2026, so the production house isn't short on momentum going into this. The real numbers, house by house, language by language, start showing up after the first Weekend Ka Vaar.
