Catherine Tresa has officially joined Sundeep Kishan in Karikaala, a socio-fantasy adventure being directed by Ugandhar Muni and produced by Mahidhar Reddy and Rajashekhar Annabhimoju under the Shining Pictures banner. The film, inspired by the fairy tales featured in Chandamama magazine, is set to be released in two parts — first on July 2, 2027, and the second on October 28, 2027. This marks a significant shift for Kishan, who has worked across Telugu and Tamil cinema but recently saw his Tamil project Sigma, directed by Jason Sanjay (son of actor and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay), fail to meet expectations, particularly in the Telugu market. With Karikaala, he’s aiming for a career-defining pivot into a larger-than-life genre. The first-look poster already unveiled Kishan in a warrior-like avatar, hinting at a fantastical world steeped in myth and danger. The makers have not yet revealed specifics about Tresa’s role, though her casting adds momentum to the project. She was last seen in Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, Chiranjeevi’s Anil Ravipudi-directed film that enjoyed a successful run. Her return to a major commercial production now in a fantasy setting signals strong faith in the film’s vision. Ugandhar Muni, who previously found success with Shambhala, a fantasy thriller that revived Aadi Saikumar’s career, is returning to the genre with a more expansive canvas. The film is planned as a multilingual pan-India release, with versions in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. Music will be composed by Sricharan Pakala, whose involvement is expected to shape the film’s atmospheric tone. While the narrative remains under wraps, the Chandamama connection suggests a deep dive into folklore, mythology, and magical storytelling. The two-part structure implies a serialized arc, with the second chapter arriving just over three months after the first, suggesting the story is designed to sustain audience interest without long gaps. Trade sources confirm the project is moving forward with full production planning. No other cast members have been announced yet. But with Tresa on board, a director with genre credibility, and a release window already locked in, Karikaala is shaping up as one of the most ambitious entries in Sundeep Kishan’s filmography. The real question now isn’t whether it will be made. But whether it can live up to the mythic promise of its origins.
