The Sree Vishnu comedy has now outgrossed his earlier 2026 release Vishnu Vinyasam, but a flat Dussehra holiday means it's still nowhere close to recovering its ₹20 crore budget.
Comrade Kalyan has quietly become Sree Vishnu's best-performing film of the year, though nobody at the studio is throwing a party about it.
The Telugu period comedy's box office collection stood at ₹13.73 crore net in India after 12 days, translating to a gross of ₹16.2 crore, according to Koimoi's report published October 21. The film is running on just 300 shows at this point, a sharp drop from where it started, and the Dussehra holiday on October 20 did nothing to change the trajectory. Net collection that day was ₹21 lakh, matching the previous weekend's pace rather than spiking off it.
That 12-day tally is still significant for one reason. It has pushed Comrade Kalyan past the lifetime collection of Vishnu Vinyasam, Sree Vishnu's earlier 2026 outing, which wrapped its run at ₹12.54 crore net after three weeks, per Koimoi. Vishnu Vinyasam followed a similar pattern, strong opening, soft second week. Comrade Kalyan has now overtaken it in less time, which by default makes it Sree Vishnu's highest-grossing release of the year. His other 2026 film, Mrityunjay, closed at ₹7.17 crore.
The money math is less kind. Koimoi reports the film was made on a reported budget of ₹20 crore. At ₹13.73 crore net, it's recovered about 68.65 percent of that spend, leaving a gap of roughly ₹6.27 crore. Given how much the daily numbers have cooled, Koimoi's assessment is that the film is unlikely to close that gap at its current pace.
Directed by Janakiram Marella and produced by Venkata Krishna Karnati and Seetha Karnati under Skanda Vahana Motion Pictures LLP and Kona Film Corporation, Comrade Kalyan is set in early 1990s Andhra Pradesh and follows a theatre operator navigating love, misunderstanding and a fair bit of chaos with a woman from Odisha. Mahima Nambiar plays the female lead, with Radhika Sarathkumar, Shine Tom Chacko and Upendra Limaye rounding out the cast.
The second-week slide isn't unusual for a mid-budget comedy without a big marketing push, but it does mean the film's commercial fate is more or less sealed with its opening fortnight. The question now is how much life, if any, is left in theatres before it quietly exits.

Domestic net stood at ₹11.24 crore, gross at ₹12.97 crore, with overseas earnings of ₹2 crore pushing the worldwide gross to ₹14.97 crore. Occupancy across 1,737 tracked screens was around 22 percent, with cumulative footfalls at 997,365.
October 9-11, 2026: The film opened Friday with ₹2.10 crore net, rose to ₹3 crore on Saturday and ₹3.05 crore on Sunday, taking its opening weekend domestic net to ₹8.15 crore.
