The filmmaker's blunt post on X follows a stormy assembly session where Vijay skipped Udhayanidhi Stalin's questions and went after the DMK's old record instead.
Director Mohan G has a demand for Chief Minister Vijay, and he put it on X in plain terms: stop pointing at old files and start making arrests.
The post landed after a Tamil Nadu Assembly session that had been building for a week. During the debate on the police department's grant demand, opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin fired off more than ten questions. Vijay had told the house all of it would be answered on Monday, with a pointed line that no one from the opposition benches should slip away before he did. So everyone showed up expecting fireworks.
What they got, according to Filmibeat Tamil, was something else entirely. Instead of walking through the questions, Vijay spent his time going after the DMK, reading out the Sarkaria Commission report and Enforcement Directorate allegations that have circulated for years. He also reportedly made a mocking gesture referencing the MISA-era arrest and assault of former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, a moment that's since drawn sharp pushback. Commentators quoted in the report called it the first time Tamil Nadu has watched a sitting CM mock someone who'd faced state repression.
The reaction from Vijay's own coalition wasn't much softer. Shanmugam and Balakrishnan of the CPI(M), a party that has backed Vijay's minority TVK government, condemned the remarks. The CPI(M) has since said it will skip Wednesday's alliance meeting altogether, a decision that puts a visible crack in a coalition that was already thin on numbers.
There's also the matter of Vijay's own claim. He's said before that he has three files sitting on his desk, files presumably tied to corruption cases, but he hasn't produced anything to back that up. That's the gap Mohan G's post zeroes in on.
"Instead of highlighting 50-year-old allegations, register cases with evidence and arrest every minister and official linked to the corruption of the last five years. That is what we expect from you," the director wrote, addressing the Chief Minister directly.
It's a short post but it lands where it's meant to. Mohan G isn't disputing that the DMK has a history worth scrutinising. He's asking why a government that promised action on fresh charges keeps returning to the past instead of naming names in the present.
Whether Vijay responds to Mohan G, or to his own coalition partners walking out of Wednesday's meeting, is the open question now. The assembly isn't done with this debate either, and Udhayanidhi Stalin's questions are still, technically, unanswered.
