Ajay Devgn's Drishyam: The Conclusion has already topped what the 2022 sequel earned in its entire run, and trade estimates put it past Rs 400 crore worldwide within eight days.
Seven days was all it took. Drishyam: The Conclusion, released October 2, has already outgrossed the entire theatrical run of Drishyam 2, the 2022 film it's a sequel to, according to DNA India's box office report published Friday.
The numbers tell the story plainly. Drishyam 2 closed its run at Rs 240 crore net in India and Rs 342 crore gross worldwide. Drishyam: The Conclusion had already banked Rs 245 crore net domestically and Rs 383 crore gross worldwide by the end of its first week, DNA reported. That's a full lifetime run beaten inside seven days.
Telugu outlet Filmibeat, citing trade sources, pegs the numbers slightly differently, putting India net collections at Rs 245.5 crore and gross at Rs 295 crore for the week, with the worldwide gross crossing Rs 385 crore once overseas numbers are added in. The overseas split, per that report, comes to roughly Rs 90 crore, with North America contributing about $3.66 million and other territories adding close to $9 million. The exact figures shift a bit depending on who's counting, which is normal this early in a run, but the direction is the same everywhere: this thing is still climbing.
By day eight, trade sources quoted by Filmibeat estimated the film had crossed the Rs 400 crore gross mark worldwide, helped by a second Friday that reportedly added another Rs 20 to 22 crore across India and overseas. The film is running on close to 1,900 locations and more than 2,400 screens even in its second week, with ticket sales still being counted in the lakhs per day.
The Abhishek Pathak-directed threequel brings Ajay Devgn's Vijay Salgaonkar back into a fresh standoff, this time with Jaideep Ahlawat as SP Crime Branch officer Rajveer Singh Tomar, who's trying to finally pin down the cover-up that's kept Vijay a step ahead of the law for eleven years in the story's internal timeline. Tabu, Shriya Saran, Prakash Raj, Rajat Kapoor, Kamlesh Sawant, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav round out the cast.
On the money side, the film was made on a reported budget of Rs 120 crore, with a theatrical value target of around Rs 130 crore in distributor share and Rs 260 crore gross, according to trade estimates cited by Filmibeat. If those numbers hold, the break-even was cleared within the first week itself, and the film is already sitting on gross profit north of Rs 140 crore.
What happens next is mostly a question of runway. There's no big-ticket release standing in the way until Ramayana: Part 1, the Ranbir Kapoor and Yash starrer, arrives in the first week of November. DNA India reports trade expectations now point toward Rs 500 crore worldwide for Drishyam: The Conclusion before that gap closes, which would make it easily the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year so far. Whether it gets there depends entirely on how long the word of mouth keeps the second and third weekends busy.
