Gunmaaster G9 just got its heart-on-sleeve moment. The makers dropped Dard E Dil on Friday, a new track built around the on-screen pairing of Emraan Hashmi and Genelia Deshmukh, and it's meant to be the softer counterweight to what's being sold as an action romance.
Himesh Reshammiya composed the song and sings it alongside Akasa Singh, with lyrics by his wife Sonia Kapoor Reshammiya. This isn't the first track off the film, either. Reshammiya and Singh had already teamed up for an earlier number, and he's leaning on that momentum. In his statement, he pointed to Afsaana Banaaya Aapne and Do Do Din Ki Zindagi crossing 300 million combined views, with over 150 million of that on his own YouTube channel, Himesh Reshammiya Melodies. Dard E Dil, he said, is "particularly close to my heart," crediting Sonia's lyrics for making it "very special."
There's a personal thread running through this one too. Director Aditya Datt is the grandson of lyricist Anand Bakshi, and he says the hook of Dard E Dil carries an unmistakable echo of Bakshi's own Dard-E-Dil Dard-E-Jigar from Karz. Datt was careful to clarify it's a different song entirely, not a rework, but the emotional pull of that title landing on his own film clearly meant something to him.
